We’re back, fully refreshed from our holiday!

Well we’re back with a vengeance after our two weeks off, this weekend we are at Torquay, Essendon, Maldon Christmas in July Festival street market on Saturday and at Osborne House, North Geelong and Talbot on Sunday!

Mmmmmmhhhh what a lovely smell ……

Ooooooh, the sumptuous smell of almond and blueberries is filling the kitchen air on this bright but chilly morning.  What better way to take elevenses but to sit wrapped up in the sun, taking in the view, with a steaming hot cup of coffee and a blueberry friande just out of the oven?

We’ll be able to share this joy as we will have the friandes available at the Torquay, Ocean Grove, Trentham and Talbot Farmers Markets this weekend, and our Gluten Free friends will be able to endulge too, well …….. that’s if there are any left that is!!!

Reviving Old Fashioned Foods – Simply Fresh Ingredients & Low Food Miles

With the latest food trend to bring back forgotten foods, we have decided that it is time to revive some of the good old fashioned foods that we loved from our childhood.  Recipes that our grandmothers used, sourcing simply fresh ingredients, with low food miles and with absolutely no additives, fillers or preservatives.

Our take on the Scottish dish Rumbledethumps proved extremely popular last winter, so popular in fact that we turned them into Rumble tarts for the summer.  Our original philosophy with this dish was to come up with something that included the ‘5 a day’ vegetables.  Well we exceeded ourselves, it contains 8!

This year we are happy to announce that we are introducing the ‘Homity Pie’.  A simply delicious pie that has proved a hit with vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

Homity Pie is a traditional British open vegetable pie.  Made with potatoes, onions, cheese, a hint of garlic and herbs, it has a history that dates back to WW2, when Land Girls working under rationing restrictions made pies from vegetables that were easily available in the fields.  The origin of the name of this dish is unknown, it is believed that the word ‘homity’ was made up for the pie  –  probably a local expression relating to rationing.

A little later in the autumn/winter months we will be introducing our take on another Scottish dish, Skirlie Mirlie  –  stay tuned!

Yummy, yummy with sausages in my tummy!

Are you fed up with plastic vegetarian sausages?  Me too!  So I’ve been busy over the holidays coming up with new ideas for vegetarian food and we are pleased to announce our new veggie sausages to accompany our extremely popular burgers!

First off we have the simply succulent Vintage Cheddar, Thyme & Chive sausages  –  tasty and crisp, bursting with flavour and, if it is at all possible, even more scrumptious served with salad and Grandma Dot’s Tomato Relish!  Or, for those lazy holiday or weekend mornings when you can relax over brunch, why not treat yourself to a good old English (or Aussie?) cooked breakfast with eggs and baked beans …. so delicious!

 Then we have the simply scrumptious Oregano, Feta & Pesto sausages, a slightly more grown up sausage, crispy and packed full of flavour and a touch of zing, delicious served with salad and vegetables alike!

Heavenly Vegie Burgers!

 Are you fed up with the plastic tasting vegie burgers from supermarkets?

We are, so we’ve made our own and, judging by our customers at Torquay Central Farmers’ Market, we have a hit on our hands!

First off we have the Beetroot & Zucchini Burgers, crunchy on the outside with a luscious red colouring, these burgers are a delight from start to finish, being a tasty blend of beetroot, red onion, zucchini, carrot, chickpeas, peanut butter, Tabasco, polenta, garlic & herbs. 

Our latest creation which appears to be equally as popular is the Zucchini, Mint & Feta Burgers, crunchy Panko breadcrumbs on the outside with a taste sensation on the inside, an enjoyable summer treat, a delicious blend of zucchini, feta, potato, puy lentils, chickpeas, garlic, mint, ground black pepper & salt. 

If you’re looking for something tasty for your next BBQ, pop to your nearest Farmers’ Market and treat yourself to a pack of Hidden Secret vegie burgers, but be quick, they sell out fast!

Christmas Markets

A note for your diaries!  We will be attending the Torquay Central Farmers’ Market Twilight Market on Thursday 22nd December between 5.00 pm and 8.00 pm.  If last year is anything to go by, be sure to get there very early to be sure you don’t miss out on your favourite dish for the festive weekend.  Or to be sure you get what you want this year from the Hidden Secret elves, telephone ahead and order your favourite dish for collection at the market! 

If you miss out on the Twilight market, you get another chance to buy your favourite tart, relish, meal or bucket of cheese  –  we will be at Torquay Central Farmers’ market and Newtown Farmers’ market on Saturday 24th December from 8.00 am until 1.00 pm.  Again we are happy to take orders over the phone or email to ensure you have your heart’s desire ready for a delicious Christmas meal!
