With the latest food trend to bring back forgotten foods, we have decided that it is time to revive some of the good old fashioned foods that we loved from our childhood. Recipes that our grandmothers used, sourcing simply fresh ingredients, with low food miles and with absolutely no additives, fillers or preservatives.
Our take on the Scottish dish Rumbledethumps proved extremely popular last winter, so popular in fact that we turned them into Rumble tarts for the summer. Our original philosophy with this dish was to come up with something that included the ‘5 a day’ vegetables. Well we exceeded ourselves, it contains 8!
This year we are happy to announce that we are introducing the ‘Homity Pie’. A simply delicious pie that has proved a hit with vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
Homity Pie is a traditional British open vegetable pie. Made with potatoes, onions, cheese, a hint of garlic and herbs, it has a history that dates back to WW2, when Land Girls working under rationing restrictions made pies from vegetables that were easily available in the fields. The origin of the name of this dish is unknown, it is believed that the word ‘homity’ was made up for the pie – probably a local expression relating to rationing.
