Dot was born in Newstead, Victoria and the third generation to make this relish. The spices were bought from a travelling Chinese man who visited them once a month. The family still live in Newstead and have given us the recipe.

Ingredients:  Tomatoes, Onions, Sugar, Spices

HiddenSecretSquareLogoGrandma Ellen’s Beetroot Relish

Ellen was born in Ireland soon after her sister Molly arrived too late for her passage to America on the Titanic. Ellen was famous for her home made apple pies and for her love of beetroot and we use her recipes today. Molly made it safely to America 2 years later.

Ingredients:  Beetroot, Red Onions, Sugar, Vinegar, Salt, Pepper

HiddenSecretSquareLogoGrandma Lillie’s Lemon Curd

Lillie loved making lemon curd and was dismayed at the lack of lemons during WW2.  She more than made up for it afterwards and ensured she passed the recipe down the family.   Friends were always happy when Lillie gave them one of her jars.

Ingredients: Lemon Zest & Juice, Sugar, Eggs, Butter

HiddenSecretSquareLogoGrandma Annie’s Green Tomato Pickle

Growing up in Victorian London, Annie would have been taught that no food was to be wasted.  After the short season for ripe red tomatoes, green tomatoes would be ready to pickle and store through the winter months.

Ingredients: Green Tomatoes (43%), Cauliflower, Onions, Cucumber, Gluten free flour, Apple Cider Vinegar, Brown Sugar, Spices. Salt.
