Ooh we’ve just taken the final booking for our June pastry class, there should be some lovely pies, tarts and desserts on dinner tables throughout Geelong soon ……
Seeing as Christmas is so much fun we’ve decided we will have two this year! Also, having spent so much time in the UK, we can’t quite get used to a sunny, hot Christmas, so a trip to the Maldon Christmas in July Festival is a must!
This year we have decided to take part in the festivities and will have a stall at the night market in the centre of Maldon, so evocative of a European Christmas market, on Saturday 14th July from 3.00 pm to 8.30 pm. We will have all our usual delicious goodies, including savoury tarts, sweet tarts, rumble-de-thumps, mushroom and pumpkin wellingtons, beetroot & zuchinni burgers, organic beetroot relish, Grandma Dot’s tomato relish and good old fashioned lemon curd, to name but a few! We will also have available hot tarts and delicious homemade soup to keep the cold at bay!
Come along and join in the fun, visit the beautifully decorated shops, check out the market for the fresh produce, wine and craft stalls, the amusement rides for the kids and live music playing throughout the evening, finishing off with the lighting of a giant bonfire and fireworks whilst banishing any winter blues by sipping on some gorgeous homemade soup or biting into a lovely savoury tart with Grandma Dot’s tomato relish, mmmmmmmh delicious!
Ooooooh, the sumptuous smell of almond and blueberries is filling the kitchen air on this bright but chilly morning. What better way to take elevenses but to sit wrapped up in the sun, taking in the view, with a steaming hot cup of coffee and a blueberry friande just out of the oven?
We’ll be able to share this joy as we will have the friandes available at the Torquay, Ocean Grove, Trentham and Talbot Farmers Markets this weekend, and our Gluten Free friends will be able to endulge too, well …….. that’s if there are any left that is!!!
If you find making pastry a challenge, then this is the class for you. Join us for a few hours of pastry enlightenment, when the secrets of making first class pastry are revealed. Once you have learned to make this classic pastry, you can use it to create endless sweet and savoury dishes.
The Hidden Secret kitchen is a purpose built kitchen set in the Moorabool Valley with its beautiful views over the countryside and vineyards below, only a 20 minute drive from Geelong. Christina, who is the pastry chef at A Hidden Secret, will show you the secrets of savoury and sweet shortcrust pastry.
Once you have learned how to make delicious pastry, both sweet and savoury, your dinner dishes will never have a soggy bottom again!
What the day involves:-
• Coffee and pastries on arrival
• All ingredients are provided and weighed out for you in advance
• Any food prepared can be taken home
• Classes are a combination of a talk or demo, then plenty of hands-on cooking
• We do the washing up!
Classes are available once a month from Saturday 16 June and will run from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, with morning tea and lunch included. The cost of the class is $150 per person and we take a maximum of six people per class to ensure that you get ample one to one tuition.
