For those of you coming to see us at the Glenlyon Food & Wine Fayre this weekend, we have a treat for you! Christina is making her famous cheesecakes, but this time with strawberries in homemade chocolate pastry cases – mmm delicious!
Ok, we know it’s only July, but our happy little chefs have been inspired by the latest cold weather which has reminded them of Christmas in the UK, and they have been planning what to offer our vegie and vegan friends for Christmas this year. The most popular dishes were the Vegetable Wellington and the Goats Cheese & Capsicum Roulade.
The Vegetable Wellington is a stylish and festive dish packed with Christmassy flavours, yet is light enough to grace the table for the Australian Christmas season, and is available as a vegetarian or vegan option. Why not add that finishing touch to the Wellington? We have a lovely vegetarian gravy (absolutely no packet stuff involved!), the gravy is a delicious blend of olive oil, red onions, carrots, celery, fennel, garlic, thyme and cinnamon. The Wellington serves 6 – 8 people and costs $30, whilst the gravy will serve 8 people and costs $10.
The Goats Cheese & Capsicum Roulade is a succulent combination of rocket, chevre, feta and capsicum wrapped in a tantalising parmesan and rocket savoury sponge. This is wonderfully light and tasty and delicious served with vegetables or salad, this will make any vegetarian feel special at a Christmas meal. The Roulade serves 6 people and costs $45.
Due to the complexity of these dishes they are only available to order with the last order date being Sunday 11th December (for delivery or collection any time up to and including 24th December). You will be able to collect your favourite dish from our kitchen up to the 24th December or delivery can be made to your nearest market, if you live in the Geelong area we will be offering a special Christmas delivery service (if you are interested in this service please contact us to find out the cost of delivery – tel: 5281 9258 or email: email@example.com).
On a chilly morning like today, I for one am looking forward to a warm Christmas!
After a particularly cold and blustery week we have decided that it is most definitely time for winter comfort food! So this weekend we will be tempting you with our fluffy cheesey mashed potato – just potatoes, butter, Meredith Dairy chevre and fresh chives all mashed together making the ‘ultimate mash’ and, even better, you don’t have to make it yourself! Goes superbly with our leek and fennel tart too!
For the sweet toothed out there we haven’t forgotten you! Come and treat yourself to our Nutty Apple Crumble, ripe juicy apples topped with an all butter almond crumble – just what winters are for!
The more we visit Farmers’ Markets every weekend, the more we bump into people requesting tasty and imaginative vegan food, and we at a Hidden Secret have listened! We now offer our Rumble-de-thump vegetable bake and our Leek & Fennel Casserole as a vegan option (they are both gluten free too!), and have just introduced our Mango & Walnut puff. And we aren’t stopping there, we are currently working on a number of new vegan food projects, so keep checking on our latest news!
